Great news. From Norton Rose Fulbright who are fighting the Canteen Kopje case:
The Northern Cape High Court in Kimberley today has granted a final order, interdicting Jackie M Wesi Mining (Pty) Ltd from “unlawfully carrying out mining operations on Erf 91, Barkly West, Northern Cape, which is also known as Portion 9 of Barkly West Commonage 687, Barkly West, Northern Cape.”
Mining therefore cannot progress at Canteen Kopje. The lawyers are now in the review process to establish that it is not possible to lawfully mine on a heritage site. We are very pleased with this result and wish to thank the many people involved, particularly the lawyers who worked pro bono and our members who participated in the case.
